(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - A top Shiite cleric in Kuwait criticized former MP Waleed Al-Tabtabaei for certain statements in which he talked about an alleged Iranian ambition to control Kuwait, terming as "nonsense" all hints in the statements about alleged loyalty of Shiites to Iran.
"Troublemakers like Al-tabtabaei are the ones who seek to take control of the country through such smooth tactics," Shiite Marja Mohammad Al-Mahri said in a statement yesterday, commenting on the Islamist lawmaker's allegations of a "smooth Iranian takeover of Lebanon" by supporting Shiites and "buying the loyalty" of members from other sectarian groups.
Al-Mahri further called for ignoring "such regrettable sectarian statements that spread hate among the people," and reiterated Kuwaiti Shiites' loyalty to their country "and the Al-Sabah ruling family which were both proved during the Ba'athist invasion to Kuwait."
